“Belarusian Pavilion at 53d Venice Biennale” is a unique art project and exhibition that opened on the 3d of June 2009 in Minsk, Belarus at BelExpo Exhibition Center.
Overall, it’s a successful endeavor to introduce contemporary Belarusian art on a large-scale level of organization and representation. Unfortunately Belarus does not take part in the Venice Biennale this year. And the idea to put together the best Belarusian contemporary artists is sort of a response to this fact, hence the name of the exhibition.
It’s obvious that the exposition created under the supervision of one of the most prominent Belarusian artists Ruslan Vashkevich is the most powerful and of high quality project that has been seen in Minsk so far. Thirty artists, sculptors and photographers participate in the exhibition, both established and emerging. Among them Sergei Kiryuschenko, Konstantin Selikhanov, Mikhail Gulin, Antonina Slobodchikova, Sergei Shabokhin, Alexei Ivanov, Anatoly Zhuravlev, Alexei Fedorov.
The unofficial “Belarusian Pavilion at 53d Venice Biennale” has proved that contemporary Belarusian art is not a myth but an objective phenomenon and it worth of international acknowledgment.
The “Pavilion” is not only a display of artworks but encompasses various performances, lectures, round table discussions and other interactive actions. Photos by BellaBelarus |
