New project by Ruslan Vashkevich. 'Richter Scale' (the artist’s quest for a solid strategy in this shaky world).

The participants:
1. Charles F. Richter (1900—1985) – American seismologist, “the Director of Earthquakes”. The magnitude scale that measures earthquake intensity is named after him. Richter scale has eight magnitude levels: micro, minor, light, moderate, strong, major, great and epic.
2. Gerhard Richter (born in 1932) – German artist, founder of Capitalistic Realism. He works at the intersection of painting and photograph. Often uses blur effect of amateur photography.
3. «Die Frau mit dem Schirm» (Woman with Umbrella, 1964, Gerhard Richter)
When we look at the painting our optical system fails, the visual sense loses its balance. The eye automatically starts looking for a vertical. There is a large vertical fragment of a wall on the left. When I’m holding on to this wall I’m in control of the situation. But when Charles comes upon the stage and joins Gerhard, Richters win the battle. Clean technical foul of the first Richter was multiplied by the second one. A simple image turns to a sheer blur. Both Richters were right: “The content has no form. It is a form by itself”.
