Project "K-R-R" by emerging Belarusian artists Antonina Slobodchikova and Mikhail Gulin

The project “K-R-R” deals with a burning issue of our time - the problem of total digitalization and virtualization, as well as aggressive intrusion of mass media “culture” to the sphere of interpersonal relationships. The works of Antonina Slobodchikova and Mikhail Gulin, the emerging Belarusian artists and who are also a husband and a wife, are performed in genre of “total installation”. It includes not only the objects and painting but also architecture, acoustic and musical component and audience itself, whose emotional responses and comments become a part of the entire “show”. The artists blur the distinction between the aesthetic space and the real one. Their art is concealed beneath the same “media trash” that attacks us daily from different sources of information. In the installation this “media trash” is organized in certain way – it’s subdivided into communicative units. Once divided, they receive a new significant power charge. And using local trash in local context, Antonina Slobodchikova and Mikhail Gulin transform its circulation into a metaphorical knowledge about the world’s fundamentals altogether. Apparently we can talk about polyvalence of created images and characters - they could have and should have different interpretation depending on viewers themselves.

The project was on display at ZOYA Gallery (Warsaw, Poland) in August 2008.
